Chateau d’Estaigne
Evening on the Lot: The Chateau d’Estaigne is a beautiful etching with aquatint. The castle is really interesting from an architectural standpoint, with elements of Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. It is on a promontory above the Lot River.
The castle was adapted between the 11th and 18th centuries, evolving with the needs of the occupants, one of the most influential families in Rouergue, Southern France. It was confiscated in 1794, and became a Classified Historic Monument in 1945. There have been renovations since 2012. You can still visit today when it is open.
Quai des Roseraies
Margaret Aulton did a beautiful colour etching of Quai des Roseraies, Bruges. It really captures the amazing waterfront here. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city today because of the combination of incredible views and history. It’s definitely worth a visit, a boat ride, and spending some time browsing the architecture and stopping at the cafes.
Broeltorens
Staying in Belgium, Aulton did a lovely coloured etching of the Broeltorens, Kortrijk. The Broel Towers are one of the most important landmarks in the city. They, along with the Artillery Tower, are the last parts of the medieval wall. They have lovely Gothic architecture and a lot of history. As a result, they are a listed monument today to preserve them.
Torre Dei Lombardy
Overlooking the historic city of Verona is a beautiful 84m tall 12th century tower. The original design is Romanesque, but there have been numerous architectural changes over the years. This includes the addition of a now iconic clock face. It is a historic monument today, very popular with visitors. Additionally, it hosts numerous exclusive events in the evenings on the terrace. Aulton’s Torre Dei Lombardy, Verona etching captures the beauty of the tower.
