J R Hutchinson – Pair of aquatints of Bruges

We bought this wonderful pair of ORIGINAL (not re-strikes) AQUATINTS by JR Hutchinson because of the pure quality of the work. They depict canal scenes with barges of BRUGES. They date from the 1890’s which is when JRH flourished. They are in remarkably good condition. There is slight colour drop in the sky in both; so much credit to the printer and his expertise & inks. There is no foxing or other blemishes; so much credit to the framer (he used a barrier card between the backboard and the artwork. done as norm now but rare 125 years ago).

We bought them as a pair and will sell them as a pair.
Mr Hutchinson lived and worked in Bristol; he is mentioned in GUICHARD.
